Common Sleep
Disorders If
you are failing to get a good night's sleep on a consistent basis, you
might be one of the 100 million Americans who regularly fail. There
are disorders which are real and are treatable. One out of the four
listed here can be dangerous to your life. Sleep Apnea: When a person stops breathing and then starts again many times a night. It is an actual medical disorder and can cause physical problems which could be fatal. It can be the cause of high blood pressure, heart problems and can even cause strokes. Narcolepsy - Although not as serious as Sleep Apnea, it can create problems in your life. You will fall asleep suddenly, many times a day. It can become almost impossible to hold down a job or maintain a daily routine. Chronic Insomnia - Something we've all experienced at times, however, it becomes a disorder when you consistently have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep night after night. Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) - This is a relatively new diagnosed disorder. You will lose sleep because of a restless feeling in your legs. You will feel the need to constantly move your legs. If you think that you are exhibiting any of these signs, contact your primary care physician and have him/her provide you with a referral to our office. Our staff will set you up with an appointment and you will be given a night to come in for your testing. Take the first step to getting a good night's sleep. Talk to your physician. |
